CHIEF OF POLICE

The Town of Hampton, South Carolina is actively recruiting for a community-oriented, progressive leader from within the state of South Carolina to serve as Chief of Police.

Job Duties

This position provides executive leadership for the Hampton Police Department, overseeing all law enforcement operations including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, community policing, and emergency response and operations. This position oversees recruitment, training, discipline, and performance of personnel. Additionally, the Chief prepares and administers a $1.3M annual departmental budget, develops and enforces policies ensuring legal and constitutional compliance, leads critical incidents, collaborates with partner agencies, and builds public trust through transparency and community engagement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University is preferred or, a combination of an associate degree and a minimum of four years law enforcement experience as a senior supervisory or command level role is required. Demonstrated experience leading personnel, managing operations, and overseeing an annual budget in excess of $1M. Proven ability to lead during critical incidents and under public scrutiny. Valid South Carolina law enforcement officer certification, and a valid South Carolina driver’s license required prior to appointment.

Annual Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

POLICE OFFICERS - FULL TIME

Employee Status: Full Time
Position Hours: Shift work 6a-6p/6p-6a Mon/Tue/Fri/Sat/Sun one week Wed/Thur the next week
Job Duties:
Responsible for providing daily protection of life and property for the citizens of the Town of Hampton. Receives and implements all directions as given by immediate supervisor. 
Ensures the enforcement of the law.
Performs related activities to include serving warrants, arresting violators of the law, enforcement of traffic laws, preparing reports, responding to citizen complaints, etc. 
Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age, Hold a valid SC driver's license, High school diploma or GED. 
Hold a Class 1 SCCJA certification or be able to complete SCCJA 12-week basic law certification.
Pass a SCCJA approved Physical, Psychological, and Read comprehension exam. 
Pay Info
Uncertified starting pay $22 per hour, salary based off experience.

FIREFIGHTER - VOLUNTEER

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid SC driver's license and three year driving record.

Special Requirements

IFSAC FIREFIGHTER 1 and medical first responder certification within first two years of service or currently possess.
